Weekly update (and new sculpts!).

Hello everyone!

A lot has happened this week and I am very excited to write this post. I know I have been absent lately but I have not forgotten about you guys! I been trying to get my new passport and ID, which I managed thankfully to get it done (yay!) and on Tuesday I will have an interview with the Swedish Migration board to extend my visa for another couple of years. Hopefully this will be one of the last times I see them. They are nice people of course but it is a bit of a hassle to get there and say that you are still a normal citizen. Well, I do respect their laws and I love it here so its not really that big of a deal.

ANYWAY, here are some of the geeky updates of this week. I finally got my first game released today! I can say I have “popped my cherry” when it comes to games and I have a published game under my belt. So without further ado, I give you Elin´s doll house!

It is a cute little building app which can be downloaded to your iPad FOR FREE if you click here. Granted it is an update to the already released app from Fabrication Games but I can say I worked quite a bit on this project. A small team of 3 consisting of a Concept/graphic artist, programmer and 3D artist (Me!) were responsible of updating this little app. We ended up adding new furniture, new color schemes, object animations and new characters such as the dog and new growing plants which will grow as the days go by. Pretty neat update which definitively gives another layer to the app and there is even more to come soon! I am just happy to finally have a shipped title under my belt and I hope this is just the first of many to come! :)

On to the second part of this update: The last time I wrote about the sculpt challenge made me a bit sad since I really want to do this but unfortunately life gets too much in the way. I had to find every little time I have free to do some sculpting. I started to use my lunch breaks. I have only one hour and generally at least 30 min of it is spent with the food part of lunch. This gives me only half an hour but its something at least so I really have to optimize my time. I also decided not to rush and actually finish a piece. I had a couple of pieces that really looked unfinished and if I am going to post something here, it better be the best I can do. No point wasting my lunch time with bad/half finished sculpts when I could just load a previous sculpt and keep at it until it looks something good. So without further ado, here are a couple of scultris sketches I’ve did this week.

I like how this guy turned up although I have to agree with one of my good friends who mentioned it was too symmetrical. I should start turning off symmetry and do some final touched at the end.

The second sculpt this week has a small back story to it. I was talking to Ola (guitar player for our band Feared and known for his now famous youtube channel) and he introduced me to Metallica´s new album with Lou Reed, Lulu. Im not going to ramble why I didnt like the album (you can listen to it yourself and reach the same conclusion here) but the point was that I started thinking about the old metal bands I loved when I was younger. Which made me think of Iron Maiden. So after a couple of lunch breaks and a couple of hours to put it all together, I made this sculpt of Iron Maidens Mascot, Eddie the great! Take a look for it yourself:

You can right click it and open the image in another tab if you want to see it in full resolution. I tried to showing this image to Iron Maiden via its Twitter feed but never heard back from them. I had a bit more luck at reddit´s /r/metal sub and a few people liked it. I hope you guys like it too.

So there you have it folks! Its been a busy week and Im sure another busy one is coming. I hope you all had a great halloween party this weekend and soon I will show you guys more stuff Ive been working on! All the best to you guys!

The daily sculpt challenge FAIL! (and how I will overcome it)

When I start projects I tend to be a bit too optimistic. This obviously has been one of them. But I am not making this post as form of excuse for not managing the goal I have made a few posts back. I did, however, stay in course for a few days and I do love sculpting. I might have been foolish overly ambitious with it. I WILL continue to sculpt. Maybe not everyday but I will continue to sculpt. I post on forums like Polycount forums or Zbrush central with my latest sculpts but I unfortunately I forgot to post them here. I will however post the other sculpts I done during that week and I will keep you guys updated. I might not sculpt every day, but I will keep sculpting. :)

Here are some of the sculpts I made last week. I might not be happy with most of them but they all fit the description. So here we go!

  • Cacodemon inspired sculpt

  • Weird Alien head.

  • A sci-fi-esque helmet sculpt - This is one of the couple I had only half an hour or so.

  • Lastly, a small attempt at learning some hair sculpt. I also only had 20 min during lunch to finish it.

As you all can see, I still have a lot to learn. But I do want to continue learning and I will keep on sculpting so I can become a kick ass in no time! :) Hope you guys liked it and please leave a comment! Let me know if you guys have any cool sculpting tutorials, tips or critiques. I would love to hear from you.

Have a great weekend.

One Sculpt a day challenge. Day 2 - The ogre.

Hi everyone! Its another day, thus another sculpture post. For those of you that have no clue what Im talking about, just check this post from yesterday

Today I used a different method to create this fellow. I started out with a little drawing program called Alchemy (Click here to check it out), its a pretty nice sketching program and its all free so give it a try. But anyway, seems like I am getting off subject here. So anyhow. I used Alchemy to do a little sketch and saved it as a black and white jpeg to use it as an alpha in Zbrush. I fired up sculptris next and made a base bust sculpt which I transfered to Zbrush using their awesome GoZ feature. Inside Zbrush I used the sketch I made on Alchemy and applied a mask on where the face of my mesh would be. After a few strokes and some smoothing, I went back to sculptris and starting sketching and just let the shapes come naturally. So after a while my alarm kicked in and I had to stop. I am forcing myself to stop and leave the piece unfinished so I can look at it and force myself next time to make a more unified piece. So here is the result of day 2 of my challenge:

So there you have it! What do you think? You’re more than welcome to give any critiques, tips and suggestions. Just hit up the comments and Ill hear you out! As for me, I will enjoy the rest of my Sunday and get back to sculpting again tomorrow! :D
